Sport Seneca Figure Skating Program provides male and female skaters with extensive training in preparation for singles competition at the Provincial and National level. The results and achievements of our athletes have been outstanding. We have developed a highly respected reputation with the national sport governing body, Skate Canada, with an average passing rate for tests at a remarkable 95%.
The skaters begin their day at 7:00 am in the Seneca College Arena, and depending on their grade level, train until 10 or 10:30 every morning Monday to Friday. On Ice Training includes free skate, dance and skills sessions, stroking, spins, power and edge/turn classes. Specific off ice training includes fundamentals, jump class, trampoline, mental training and conditioning.
Based on a schedule, dance instruction in ballet and jazz is given, in the Dance Studio on campus, by dance experts. All the skaters meet with the coaching staff at the beginning of September and an individual program is devised for each. Tests and competitive events are planned and then carried out over the season. Off-ice conditioning is conducted right after school in the Fitness Centre by experts who know skating needs.
