Skating Club of San Francisco

The Skating Club of San Francisco is dedicated to the promotion of the sport of figure skating. It was originally incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in California in the 1930s as the Skate & Ski Club of San Francisco and its name was changed in the early 1950s to The Skating Club of San Francisco, Inc. . It is one of the oldest member clubs of the United States Figure Skating Association (aka US Figure Skating), which is the recognized National Governing Body for the sport of Figure Skating by the International Skating Union (ISU) and the US and International Olympic Committees.

The Skating Club of San Francisco has always been and continues to be run entirely by volunteers, a majority of whom are official judges for the US Figure Skating. The  currently purchases ice time for skaters to practice and receive instruction at its designated home facility, the Yerba Buena Ice Center in San Francisco, and at its secondary facility at Belmont Iceland in Belmont California. Additionally, the Club purchases ice time to hold US Figure skating test sessions where skaters are evaluated on their proficiency in various skating skills that determine the skater's qualification for a respective level of competition (e.g. juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior, and senior).

The Skating Club of San Francisco has and continues to support individual skaters who compete in singles, pairs, and dance events and also supports synchronized skating teams, the Tremors, and a new Theater on Ice team, all of whom compete in regional, sectional, and national competitions sanctioned by US Figure Skating. These skaters may eventually qualify for international competitions and the Skating Club of San Francisco is proud to have had numerous competitors who have achieved championships and medal placements at regional, sectional, and national US Figure Skating competitions
