Alexandra Ice Skating Club

Alexandra Ice Skating Club was formed in 1939, originally as a division of the Alexandra Winter Sports Club. For many years, until 1967, skating was on the natural ice at the Manorburn Dam. We hosted the first National Championships held in New Zealand in 1939. Then an outdoor rink was built next to the dam. This was used by the Alexandra Ice Skating Club until the new rink was built in the township which opened in 1993. The rink is a 30m x 60m outdoor rink, the biggest outdoor rink in the southern hemisphere. We do hope to have it roofed within the next two years.

The Alexandra Ice Skating Club was formed to help young figure skaters reach their full potential. We do this with the assistance of Professional Figure Skating Coaches, usually from Canada. At the moment we have the shortest season of any of the Clubs in New Zealand but this will change when we have a roof fitted.
